UK Club Gymnastics Info
General Info:
We are an intercollegiate and recreational gymnastics club that offer gymnastics to both the inexperienced and experienced. We practice from 4 to 6 hours a week in the gym, as well as weightlifting once a week. Although you do not have to come to every single practice it is highly recommended to gain new skills or to get old ones back and/or to compete. We practice at Excel Gymnastics.
Address: 700 S Keeneland Dr., Richmond, KY 40475
Competitions:
We compete only in the spring semester but competing is completely optional. You can choose to compete in one meet, all of the meets, or none at all. It's completely up to you! A list of potential meets will be sent out. We compete through NAIGC competition rules which can be found at https://naigc.org/
The club will provide team leotards to those who wish to compete. Merchandise such as T-shirts will be sold, as well as team jackets! Fundraising will be done and members are expected to help to be able to pay for carpooling, hotels, and meet fees. Competing is completely relaxed and super fun whether you’ve competed for years, or if it’s your first competition. There is very little pressure and the goal is to have the best time possible!
Club Requirements:
Requirements to be in the club is short. You must be a UK student (undergrad or graduate), sign liability forms through Excel Gymnastics and the UK Club requirements, and pay the semester fee. This fee changes depending on how many people join the club, but it helps us rent the gym for the semester and is divided amongst the entire team. For example, with 30 people, everyone would only have to pay about $75. The more people, the cheaper it is!
Carpooling:
We do carpool those who do not have a car on campus. If you need a ride, it isn’t a problem, just be sure to text in the GroupMe so someone can pick you up. If you are able to drive, parking at Excel is free.
Coaching:
While we do not have an official coach, many of the team members have coached before. We keep everyone safe by setting up drills for progressions and spotting when needed. However, the structure of practice is very individualized, and we expect everyone to only attempt skills they are capable of doing.
